The "Ways of Seeing"


At last week, Our class has watched a series of documentary about “ The ways of seeing”. Although each documentary were just a 5 to 10 minuets, yet it is great influential video, the whole documentary confronts several important aspect of art. The video compares the art history relating to Publicity in Ways of Seeing. He explains oil paintings concerning class, race, gender and ethnicity. They under the same philosophy but in difference direction. Then, he discussed how publicity used the concept, idea, positioning and models of the oil painting which to apply the products itself. This process were transform the result is enviable. This state of being envied constituted glamour. Glamour can not exit without personal social envy being a common and widespread emotion. Publicity change our life, our thinking, lack of money means lack of glamours, faceless, non existence and inadequate. Publicity urging each of us to buy more, have that product, have that live. All it does want to each one of us that we are not enviable enough – yet could be.

At last, The documentary shows argues the incoherence contents page of the magazine. The juxtaposition of images was not planned. What we need to realize is what such contrasts reveal about the nature of publicity.

The video of “Ways of Seeing” is an extremely valuable documentary, which offer great insight into artwork, particularly the differences between photographs and oil paintings. The critical analyze of culture,values of traditional. All let us to see the world with new eyes to greater understanding of the image around them. Eventually, The relation between what we see and what we know is never settled.

Today the lesson focused on the academic writing skills, discussed the informal writing and formal writing respectively. Also including the cautious language which applying in the particular academic contexts.

To define the formal writing is often using passive verb forms. That means are the writer wants to focus on the result not a person or thing and often using impersonal pronouns, phrases, adverb to add detail in a passive form. Particular in use the vocabulary and rewrite the sentence in passive voice appropriately. 

Informal English contains contractions, hesitation fillers and a number of phrasal or prepositional verbs. It is active voice with conversational expressions.

Cautious language is frequently used in reporting research and making claims. It should be careful the definite statements. For example, Always / Never / Forever etc should not be use in academic writing. More appropriate language should be, it seems / it may / it would be / tend to / likely etc.

To sam up, academic style with appropriate vocabulary, structures and cautious language. Formal writing should be in passive verb forms.
